The constellations of Orion the Hunter (top right),Canis Major (bottom left) and Monoceros (upper centre left). Four bright stars in Orion form a quadrangle at the centre of which lies the Orion's belt,an asterism formed by three bright stars lying almost in a straight line. Canis Major contains the brightest stars in the sky,Sirius or the Dog Star, with a magnitude of 1.5. Canis Major (the Great Dog) represents one of the two Orion's hunting dogs. Monoceros, the Unicorn,is not an ancient constellation and there are no definite legends attached to it. The pink arc- shaped feature in Orion is the Barnard's Loop a giant bubble of interstellar gas and dust | |
