Secondary stomach cancer. Gross specimen of tissue from a stomach with a secondary cancer (round lump at centre). Secondary cancers (metastases) spread from a primary cancer elsewhere in the body. Whole body (systemic) treatments, such as anti-cancer drugs, are required to ensure that all cancerous cells are removed. Surgery can be used if the whole cancer can be removed and the body organ is not damaged. It is possible to remove large parts of the stomach and even connect the oesophagus to the duodenum (the first part of the intestines). However, the prognosis is still poor | |
