Reverend Samuel Vince (1749-1821),English mathematician and astronomer. Vince was Plumian Professor at the University of Cambridge from 1796-1821. His astronomical work included his Bakerian Lecture in 1798: "Observations upon an unusual Horizontal Refraction of the Air; with Remarks on the Variations to which the lower Parts of the Atmosphere are sometimes subject". It is for his work on fluid dynamics,which contributed to the later development of the aeroplane,that he is best remembered. He was awarded the Copley Medal of the Royal Society in 1780.
