Adolphe Celestin Pegoud (1889-1915),French aviator,in an aeroplane. Pegoud is best known for being the first ace fighter pilot. He began flying in 1913,and at the start of World War I he volunteered for flying duty. He was soon flying solo and claiming a succession of victories against the German planes.
