MODEL RELEASED. Gene research into breast cancer. Researcher at a binocular microscope counts cells which have been transfected with DNA that may express the human breast cancer gene. Petri dishes contain the cultured epithelial cells. DNA fragments have been inserted into these cells, together with a reporter gene. Those cells which express the reporter gene are screened as being possible candidates containing the gene for breast cancer. Scientists believe that a defective gene located on human chromosome 17 is responsible for many cases of inherited breast cancer. This research will assist them to locate the precise position of the cancer gene on chromosome 17 | |
