Great Wall of China. This is the Jinshanling section of the wall. This section is around 140 kilometres north-east of Beijing, and runs over the rugged terrain of the Jinshan mountains. This part of the Great Wall of China was initially built from 1368 to 1389,during the Ming Dynasty. It was rebuilt in the 16th century. This part of the wall is about 11 kilometres long, with more than 100 watchtowers that housed sentries keeping watch for invasion by barbarians from the north. The Great Wall of China was built in stages between the 5th and 17th centuries, from materials such as earth,or stone and brick. The longest section is over 6000 kilometres long, and is the longest man-made structure in the world | |
