Layering in Spallanzani Crater. Satellite image showing layering patterns inside the Spallanzani impact crater on the surface of Mars. Layering like this implies that the region has experienced multiple climatic conditions or geological processes through time. Seen here is also a feature known as terracing, which happens when the layers form distinctive planes on top of each other. Given the high latitude of the crater,it is possible that these deposits are ice-rich.
