Standard ampere. Historical illustration of the electrodynamometer designed by French physicist Joseph Solange Henri Pellat (1850-1909) and built by Carpentier for measurements relating to the international standard (SI) for the ampere, the unit of electric current. These standards were established by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) at Sevres,France. The Pellat method shown here remained the standard way to measure the ampere for many years.
