Drake's attack on Saint Augustine. 16th-century illustration of the attack carried out on the Spanish settlement of Saint Augustine (now part of Florida,USA) on 28-29 May 1586 by a fleet led by English corsair Sir Francis Drake. The English forces rowed ashore in pinnaces and destroyed the settlement which housed 150 soldiers and included a town house,watchtower and church. This attack took place during Drake's 1585-6 voyage to the West Indies,and was part of the Anglo-Spanish War.
