Maud Leonora Menten (1879-1960),Canadian biochemist and physician. Menten studied medicine at the University of Toronto,obtaining her medical degree in 1911,one of the first women to do so in Canada. Her major work was on enzyme-catalyzed reactions,working in 1912 and 1913 in Germany with Leonor Michaelis. This resulted in what is now called the Michaelis-Menten equation. Menten obtained her doctorate at Chicago in 1916. She spent her career at the University of Pittsburgh (1923-1950) and at the British Columbia Medical Research Institute (1951-1953). She was inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame in 1998 | |
