James Pickering Kendall (1889-1978),British chemist. Kendall studied at the University of Edinburgh,obtaining his Doctor of Science (DSc) degree in 1915. In 1912,he had worked with Arrhenius on electrolytes at the Nobel Institute in Stockholm,Sweden. He also spent time in the USA,and during World War I worked on chemical warfare. He was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1927. He was appointed Professor of Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh in 1928,holding this role until 1959. He was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1929,and was President of the RSE from 1949 to 1954 | |
