Dead trees killed by volcanic eruption, with Mount St Helens in the distance. Mount St Helens erupted in 1980 with a titanic blast that ripped out the north side of the volcano, leaving a large gap in the crater wall. The blast devastated a 600-square-kilometre area. Most of the mature trees in the heavily forested area were flattened. The area has yet to fully recover from the blast. Photographed in Washington State,USA | |
