Peringuey's adder (Bitis Perinqueyi) is a venomous sidewinding snake which is covered with keeling scales and hunts by means of ambushing its prey. It is capable of burying itself in the soft Namib sand within seconds and often uses its tail to attract prey. Its sidewinding action allows it to move across the hot Namib Sand in such a manner that it does not absorb too much heat. Photographed in the Namib Desert near Swakopmund,Namibia,Southern Africa | |
