Cro-Magnon 1 fossil skull. Cast of a fossil of the skull of a male aged around 45 years of age. It dates from around 28,000 years ago,and was found in the Dordogne region in southern France in 1868. Cro-Magnons were an early European culture of modern humans (Homo sapiens sapiens). A study carried out in 2010 found that this specimen's cranium (and hence brain) was around a fifth larger than human brains today. Natural History Museum,London,UK | |
