British flamethrower. Smoke and flames from a large projector-type flamethrower developed by the British. The largest British flamethrower developed in this period,during and after World War I,was the Livens Large Gallery Flame Projector. This was invented by British army officer and engineer William Howard Livens. It was 17 metres long,and had a range of 30 to 40 metres. It was first used in 1916.
