Eads Bridge construction. This stage of the construction of the Eads Bridge,across the Mississippi River,USA,shows the piers erected,the steel ribs completed and the roadways begun. This bridge,which carries both rail and road traffic,is 1964 metres long and 27 metres high,spanning the river between St Louis,Missouri,and East St Louis,Illinois. It was constructed between 1867 and 1874,and is named after its designer and builder,US civil engineer James Buchanan Eads (1820-1887).
