Desert-adapted elephant using its trunk to throw dust over itself. Dust baths help to ward off insects. This is an African elephant (Loxodonta africana) adapted to living in desert areas of Namibia and Angola. Such elephants manage to survive on significantly less water than other elephants. They also eat less and are known to travel up to ninety kilometres in just a few days as they move in search of food. Photographed in Kaokoland,Namibia | |
