Demonstration of Pascal's Principle. This principle stated that pressure exerted on a liquid or gas is transmitted equally to all parts of that liquid or gas. Here,a metal sphere filled with water has elastic membranes covering six openings on all sides. Applying pressure to one of the openings causes expansion of the membranes on all the other openings,as shown here. This principle was proposed in 1653 by the French mathematician Blaise Pascal (1623-1662).
