Feeding mosquito. Female Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) feeding on human blood. The female mosquito feeds by piercing the skin and sucking blood through the proboscis (tube-shaped mouthpiece). She uses the blood meal for the production of eggs. This mosquito acts as a vector for the West Nile virus and the Dengue fever virus. Both of these viruses cause diseases that can be fatal.
