Uranographia constellations. This page of this star atlas shows Northern Hemisphere constellations. The constellations are groupings of stars in the night sky, here represented by mythological figures. At top is part of Camelopardalis (The Giraffe). At centre left is Lynx (a genus of cat). At lower centre is Auriga (The Charioteer). At lower left (now part of Auriga) is an obsolete constellation,Telescopium Herschelii, created in 1789 to honour the astronomer William Herschel. The Tropic of Cancer and the ecliptic run across bottom. Uranographia was published in 1801 by the German astronomer Johann Elert Bode (1747-1826) | |
