The Concordia Research station,opened in 2005,is a research facility that was built 3,233 metres above sea level at a location called Dome C on the Antarctic Plateau. It is the fourth permanent,all-year research station on the Antarctic Plateau,and is 1670 kilometres away from the geographic South Pole. Dome C is one of the coldest places on Earth. Temperatures barely rise above minus 25 degrees Celsius in summer and can fall below minus 80 degrees in winter. The annual average air temperature is minus 54.5 degrees Celcius | |
