Sundew plant (Drosera sp.) leaves with the stalks of their secretory glands (red). These exude a glue (colourless droplets) which traps passing insects and gives the plant its dew-like shine in the sun. This carnivorous plant secretes enzymes to digest the insect and obtain nitrogen. This allows it to live in nutrient-poor soils such as those found in bogs and marshlands | |
