Male arrow poison frog (Epipedobates anthonyi) carrying one of his young tadpoles (black) on his back. This frog is known for its dedicated parenting. The female lays her eggs in leaf litter, and the male guards them until they hatch. He then carries the newly-hatched tadpoles to a pond or stream to continue their development. This frog lives in the forests of western Peru and Ecuador. Its bright markings warn predators that its skin contains highly toxic secretions. | |
