Timelapse footage of the flowers of a teasel (Dipsacus fullonum) opening. The teasel is a large prickly plant that commonly thrives on commons and wasteland. The flowers are borne on egg-shaped heads, first appearing in a band around the centre of the head, before spreading up and down over the next few days. Once the flowers are pollinated, seeds form between the spikes of the head, and form a popular winter food for birds. Teasel is native to Eurasia and north Africa, but has spread worldwide in suitable climates, and is an invasive weed in many places. | |
