This bomb was detonated over the secondary target of the Japanese city of Nagasaki. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki took place on 6 and 9 August 1945, devastating the cities and killing hundreds of thousands, leading to a swift end to World War II. Bockscar was accompanied on its mission by two other B-29 bombers, 'The Great Artiste' (for observation and instrumentation support) and 'The Big Stink' (for photography). | |
