Venus girdle (Cestum veneris) swimming in the sea. This ribbon-shaped animal is a ctenophore, or comb jelly. It is a pelagic animal, found in midwater throughout the world's oceans. It possesses rows of cilia, but its main form of propulsion is the undulation of its body. It is a predator, feeding on planktonic crustaceans, and it can reach a metre in length. Filmed in the Mediterranean Sea. | |
