Bobtail squid (Sepiola sp.) swimming through a swarm of krill-like crustaceans. Bobtail squid are small squid that are closely related to, and resemble, cuttlefish. They are typically just a few centimetres in length. They are nocturnal predators of small crustaceans. They maintain a colony of symbiotic light-producing bacteria in their lower abdomen, which mimic star- and moonlight and help to hide its silhouette against the brighter surface when seen from below. Filmed in the White Sea. | |
