Having just delivered a branch to his mate to be used in nest building, this male great blue heron (Ardea herodias) takes flight in search of more. Great blue herons live in colonies and often build their nests in sycamore trees 15 - 25 meters above the ground surrounded by water. This species has a wingspan exceeding two meters and is found in many areas of North and Central America. | |
