Homo naledi skull, rotating animation. The extinct hominin Homo naledi was identified from fossils discovered in 2013 in the Rising Star Cave system, South Africa. Announced in September 2015, the discovery was made by a group led by US palaeoanthropologist Lee Berger. The cave in which the fossils were discovered is thought to be no more than 3 million years old. It is thought that an adult male was around 150 centimetres tall and weighed around 45 kilograms. It stood upright and was fully bipedal. The brain was smaller than modern humans, with a volume of between 450 and 550 cubic centimetres | |
