Bank swallows (Riparia riparia) fly to and from nests built into nearly vertical bank high above the Cuyahoga River in Ohio. Some colonies can reach as many as 1, 000 to 2, 000 nests. Males are responsible for burrowing nests which can reach a metre deep. Males will sometimes perch at edge of nest hoping to attract mates who may visit many nests before they select a suitable male and nest. | |
