Footage of the Apollo 11 astronauts signing a placard from the Guam Tracking Station during the global Presidential Goodwill Tour that took place from 29 September to 5 November 1969. The footage shows Buzz Aldrin and then Neil Armstrong signing. Officially called the Giantstep Apollo 11 tour, the route took the Apollo 11 astronauts and their entourage to 27 cities in 22 countries over a period of 37 days. NASA astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Mike Collins were the crew of the historic Apollo 11 mission (16-24 July 1969), achieving the first landing by humans on the Moon on 20 July 1969. Around 100 million people turned out across the world to see the men who had been to the Moon. The island of Guam is a US territory in the western Pacific Ocean. A NASA tracking station on Guam helped ensure the safe return of the Apollo 11 astronauts. The visit to Agana (now Hagatna), Guam, took place from 2-3 November 1969. | |
