Titanium-gold alloy. Three-dimensional computer generated molecular model of the structure of titanium-gold alloy. Titanium-gold alloys are stronger and harder than pure titanium. In July 2016, researchers discovered that a 3 to 1 alloy of titanium-gold produced at high temperatures is up to 4 times harder than most steels, because of its tight-packed cubic crystal structure. The alloy, known as beta titanium-3 gold, is also biocompatible, making it an ideal material for longer-lasting, hard-wearing medical implants. | |
