Kennedy (1917-1963) departing by motor car following the Gemini briefing part of his tour of NASA facilities at Merrit Island, near Cape Canaveral, Florida, USA, on 16 November 1963. Kennedy walks back to the motor car with NASA Administrator James Webb, and the tour then continued to a briefing in the Launch Control Centre. This was Kennedy's third visit to Cape Canaveral, taking place a week before his assassination. During this tour, Kennedy was also briefed on the Apollo programme and took an aerial tour of the facility. The site was renamed the Kennedy Space Center in his honour on 29 November 1963. |
