Venus, rotating during a Venusian day. Venus's rotation on its axis with respect to the stars (the sidereal period) takes 243 Earth days. Venus, named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty, is the second planet from the Sun. Its diameter is around 12, 104 kilometres. The surface temperatures are over 500 degrees Celsius, the hottest planetary surface in the solar system. In addition, the atmospheric pressure on the surface is 90 times that on Earth. Venus is the brightest planet seen from Earth, and is often visible to the naked eye. | |
