Storm winds whipping up sea foam and blowing it ashore. Sea foam, or spume, forms when the breakdown products of offshore algal blooms act as a surfactant, like detergent, forming thick lathers of bubbles. Some foams can be harmful if they are composed of the remains of toxic algae or bacteria. Filmed at Craster on the Northumberland coast, on 4th January 2016. | |
