Malham Cove limestone pavements. Drone footage of limestone pavements on top of the cliffs of Malham Cove. These 70-metre-high cliffs of white limestone were formed by glacial action. The cliffs used to have a waterfall running over them, but the stream now goes underground before emerging lower down as a river. These cliffs were formed along a fault line before being eroded backwards from the line of the fault by the action of water and ice over millions of years. The cliffs are composed of Carboniferous limestone, deposited between 363 and 325 million years ago. Malham Cove is in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, North Yorkshire, UK. | |
