Light microscope footage of a Arcella sp. amoeba, showing the movement of the testate amoeba in timelapse. The original capturing time was about 5 min. Arcella is a genus of testate amoeba, one of the largest and most common testacean genera with over 50 species. Arcella species have umbrella shaped housings with a central, invaginated aperture. The test is composed of organic material, transparent in young Arcella, older individuals show brown tests. Arcella moves with finger-like pseudopods called lobopodia. The amoeba was found in a small freshwater brook habitat. Microscopic contrast method used: differential interference contrast. Captured field width: 0.4mm | |
