Earth-based timelapse footage of the planet Jupiter, with its innermost moon Io, and its shadow, crossing its surface. Io has a distinct orange colour as it is covered in sulphurous volcanic deposits. It orbits just 350, 000 kilometres above the cloud-tops of Jupiter, and its proximity to the massive planet warps it during its orbit, making it the most volcanically active body in the Solar System. Filmed on 28th September 2009. | |
