| Cutaneous sarcoidosis on the face of a 28 year old female patient. This is a rare condition that causes small patches of swollen tissue, called granulomas, to develop in the organs of the body. It often affects the lungs and lymph nodes, and can also affect your skin. Sarcoidosis usually starts in adults over 30 years old and is more common in women. No single cause has been identified but genetics, environmental factors, and autoimmune function may play a role in developing this condition. For many people symptoms often improve without treatment within a few months or a year. However, some people find their symptoms gradually and get worse over time. There is currently no cure but symptoms can usually be managed with treatment such as topical and oral steroid medications, laser therapy and light therapy. | |
