Side view of a lesser spotted fritillary (Melitaea cinxia) resting on a seed head in a dry meadow habitat. Very similar to the M. didyma this species can be identified by the disco cellular vein on the hindwing which is not visible on didyma plus the more triangular shape of the hindwing spots. This species is found across the southern part of the Palearctic ecozone. Photographed in the Bukk hills, Hungary, in May. | |
