Alexander of Macedon (left, 356-323 BC) and Aristotle (right, 384-322 BC), the Ancient Greek philosopher and naturalist. Aristotle, a member of the Macedonian aristocracy, spent nearly 20 years at Plato's Academy in Athens. He returned to Macedon in around 342 BC and taught the young prince rhetoric, literature, science, medicine, and philosophy. Alexander would later conquer most of the known world as Alexander the Great. Engraving from Vies des Savants Illustres (1866). | |
