Satellite image of Hurricane Ian over the Gulf of Mexico, on 27th September 2022. Earlier in the day Ian had made landfall in western Cuba as a category 3 hurricane with sustained winds of 205 kilometres per hour. As it moved through the Gulf of Mexico Ian strengthened and made landfall in Florida, USA, on the 28th September as a category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 240 kilometres per hour. Ian caused extensive damage, power cuts and storm surges that led to widespread flooding in both Cuba and Florida.
