Painted and decorated eggs. Not just hundreds but thousands of years ago in South Africa ostrich eggs were engraved. The tradition of decorating egg shells has been adopted and re-invented across the world with, very often, religious traditions of spring, resurrection and birth. Particularly beautiful examples are Ukrainian Pysanky wax resist eggs and Wycinanki Polish eggs decorated with paper and foil cut outs. These are chickens' eggs. | |
