An inscribed stone marking the 'Electric Brae' on the A719 road near Knoweside, south of Ayr, Scotland, UK. The road here has a slope of 1 in 86 and a land configuration along the road that makes it appear to slope in the opposite direction. This provides an optical illusion in that stationary cars can appear to move uphill once the brakes are released. The term 'electric' dates from a time when electromagnetic forces were thought, in correctly, to be involved. | |
