A boilerplate version of the American Apollo capsule (command module) used to transport astronauts to the Moon in the late 1960s and early 1970s. A number of boilerplate spacecraft or mass simulators were built as test vehicles for all the early space programmes. The name boilerplate derives from the use of boilerplate steel, which was cheaper than the materials used for flight models. Photographed outside the Stafford Air and Space Museum in Weatherford, Oklahoma, USA. | |
