Axial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan through the brain and eyes of a 57-year-old woman with the beginnings of a detached retina in her right eye (upper left). The retina is the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. Retinal detachment occurs when fluid accumulates below the retina. The condition may be secondary to an inflammation or tumour. It may require surgical treatment.
