Astronaut photograph taken from the International Space Station (ISS) of the Isles of Scilly, UK. This archipelago of nearly 150 islands lies off the southwestern tip of Cornwall. The island of St Mary's is at lower centre, with St Martin's the largest island above it to its right, and Tresco the largest island above it to it's left. Part of St Agnes is at bottom left. These four islands and Bryher (to the left of Tresco) are the only inhabited islands. Turquoise areas show shallow water. At the lowest tides it is possible to walk between some of the islands. At elft are swell patterns that form as waves intersect each other as they are pushed around the islands by westerly breezes. Photographed on 8th June 2021, by a member of the Expedition 65 crew. | |
