Cushion bolax (Azorella trifurcata) grows in the treeless sub-polar regions of southern Patagonia. While it looks soft and feathery in appearance it has a hard, brittle texture. It is grown as an ornamental in rock gardens where it forms cushions of foliage. The tiny flowers are yellow. Photographed in the Reykjavik Botanical Garden , Iceland. | |
