Light micrograph of a cat thyroid gland stained with haematoxylin and eosin. Unlike in humans, in small animals the thyroid follicles are very small. Although the magnification is very low, the retraction suffered by the colloid by the technique, separating it from the follicular epithelium, is evident. Empty-looking follicles are also an artifact, due to shedding of the colloid.
