18th century illustration of an African red-eyed bulbul, or black-fronted bulbul, (Pycnonotus nigricans), a species of songbird in the family Pycnonotidae. It is found in south-western Africa. Its natural habitats are dry savanna, subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, and riverine scrub. It feeds on fruit, flowers, nectar, and insects. From Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux d'Afrique (Natural History of Birds of Africa), Volume 3, by Franeois Le Vaillant (1753-1824), published in Paris, France in 1799-1802.
